I am on all the book subreddits and I don't think I've ever seen Shuggie Bain by Douglas Stuart recommended. My friend loaned me her kindle to read this book (2020) and it is absolutely haunting, beautiful, phenomenal, and well written. Full of emptiness, sadness, realness, and believable characters. A 5 star book that was in my top 2 for the entire year. I laughed and cried and felt gutted at the end, but I absolutely loved it. More hype for Shuggie Bain, please!!
