I’m on the hunt for a dark romance that will break my heart and leave me an emotional mess. Dark romance is preferred, but I’m also open to more traditional adult romance if it still explores very heavy, dark, painful themes.
Ideally, I want a quiet, unconventional, or realistically dark kind of happy-ish ending. I’m not opposed to stories that don’t offer one at all, just give me a warning. If there is an incredibly happy ending, I want it to be painfully hard-earned and feel true to everything the characters went through.
I have no triggers, read pitch-black romance, and I’m open to anything, whether it’s a standalone or a finished series. I’m just after something truly emotionally brutal. No why-choose though please.
For context, the only books that have ever made me genuinely sob are the Ravenhood Series (not dark romance), the Torment Duet, and The Last Letter (also not dark romance). I’ve also teared up with Verity (probably because I’m a mum 😅), Perfect Strangers, and Bright Side.
There are so many other emotional books I’ve loved that didn’t quite hit the crying level, like Edge of Darkness Series, Life of Anna, Darkness Beyond the Daisies, A Heart as Black as Cole, Under Your Scars, Master of Salt & Bones, Alchemised, Manacled, Court of Ravens Duet, Deviant, Welcome to Whitlock, 24690, Web of Silence Duet, Reminders of Him, Red Rabbit Series, Still Beating, Pen Pal, Shallow River, and the Mindfck Series.
So please let me know of any adult romances (dark preferred) that left you genuinely upset for days/weeks/years etc etc. But just let me know if it has a somewhat HEA or none so I’m pre-warned haha.
