This is a niche request, but I am looking for books (fiction or non-fiction) that analyze or deconstruct the concept and cultural ritual of weddings.

Wedding traditions/rituals/ceremonies come in many forms across cultures, of course, and in the Western world, is often treated as an essential covenant for love and life. It's something that's often accepted as a social truth. Not having weddings, in contrast, is almost a "taboo" for many families, especially older generations.

I want to find a book that breaks down the cultural concept of weddings, why we're so into it, and questions whether that's really the right way to go about a lifelong relationship between two people. This can be fiction, although I imagine it would make more sense to be non-fiction, perhaps from a sociological or cultural anthropological perspective.

    Thanks!
