I’m searching for books that are very specific. I have a couple of things that I’m looking for and I’m wondering if anyone has anything to recommend. I’m aware of non-fiction books that fall into these categories, but I am looking for fiction. Note that these can be adult fiction or children’s.
1st type of book: looking for something that is fiction with the main character being very interested in visiting outer space/becoming an astronaut. Not looking for nonfiction or sci-fi for this one. Maybe even centering around the MC being interested in this right before The Challenger disaster etc
2nd type: think Free Willy or Born Free where they raise lion cubs, and specifically for this one, I’m looking for a book with the main character who has an animal pet/friend. I do not want the book to be from the animal’s perspective and I am not looking for anything fantasy.
And I’m not looking for anything like The One and Only Ivan. What I’ve read that falls into this category: Mina’s Matchbox by Yōko Ogawa. In this one, the MC has a friend who has a pygmy hippo as a pet and whose family once owned a zoo. The hippo is the last surviving animal left from the zoo. Would prefer that nothing horrible happens to the animal but I know that’s often not the case if the animal is a prominent character in the story
3rd type of story: the MC has a very specific hobby of interest, which plays a part in the story, and I would prefer that hobby is surfing.
4th type: MC in a fiction book is a long distance swimmer
