any good books that are thought provoking, slightly disturbing, and actually eerie/creepy with a plot that doesn’t feel overly saturated for the horror genre?
I LOVED Monstrilio. wasn’t as scary as I’d like but overall it’s stuck with me and would love another book that does that with an original plot

Coldheart Canyon: A Hollywood Ghost Story by Clive Barker was pretty good. It has ghosts in it at least.
Good luck.
If you’re willing to take on a veritable tome, Tom’s Crossing by Mark Danielewski is a great read
Its not really horror, more like suspense, but Secret History by Donna Tartt is a classic
Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield
