Looking at the current IRL political situation, I can't help but feel that all of my elected officials are malicious incompetent idiots. So, I often find myself thinking, "this political thing can't be so hard, why can't a reasonable normal person get elected that can make things better for all of us?"

Obviously that's a gross understatement, but you get what I mean. That's where my desire for this book is coming from. What if an actually good person was elected, who actually wanted to change things for good?

That's really the story I'd like to read. Someone new to politics, gets elected, tries to make things better, but in the process has to push through the web of lies that is politics. And so they have to wheel and deal with powerbrokers in order to try, desperately try, to get their legislation passed. All the while their making concessions and alliances they'd never thought they'd make, that are definitely morally wrong.

You know, a sort of, how far are you willing to go to see the world become better? And what are you willing to give up to achieve that?

Sharp good dialogue is also very important. Since I assume most of the battles in this book are going to be fought with words, rather then swords, the words need to be razor sharp. The best example I can give would be Tyrion Lannister from Game of thrones, although really the whole series has that kind of excellent dialogue I'm after.

This doesn't need to be set in the real world, or to deal with America. I'd be perfectly happy, in fact I think I would prefer, if this story was set in a sci-fi or fantasy universe with unique bespoke politics.
