I am 21 years old and, with the advice of my therapist, making some changes in my life. I would like to change from screen to paper before bed to try and make it easier to sleep, and also to improve my brain as I get distracted very easily.
Usually, my interests involve history (very old battles and empires, for example Alexander the Great’s battle strategies (a bit off topic but definitely cool to research, he built a land bridge purely to conquer an island, it is still there now called Tyre in Lebanon)). I like science fiction (Star Wars, Marvel, DC etc) and video games.
I understand most of this is cheap dopamine, hence the post. Any ideas for a good book to start with? I would rather not read any books with movie adaptations as I will likely get the feeling of ‘seen this before’.

I’d recommend life of Alexander by Plutarch. If you already know some history, it will be easier to follow, and if you enjoy that one, you’ll probably go down the Plutarch rabbit hole and binge read all of his “lives”. Julius Caesar and Themistocles are also a great ones.
Props to you for wanting to make changes in your life. Sadly, not many get that far.

Dungeon crawler carl is a series that’s like a video game.Â

The Chronicles of Saint Mary’s is a funny series about historical events.Â
Michael Crichton’s **Timeline** has a group of grad students go back to 14th century France to investigate a mystery while another group stays in the present to assist/protect them. Much of the story is set in the past, depicting the brutality of life back then.
