Hello, my Indigenous dad is in his late 50s and trying to get into reading more but finds it hard as his first language isn’t English and he’s not the best with reading and writing. I’m trying to find him some reads but kinda struggling lol so hoping you’ll help!

He wants mature stories that have simple language that’s easy to comprehend. I was thinking if there are some teen or YA books that don’t feel like they’re for younger audiences? He’ll def be self conscious about that

I’m thinking something along the lines of Red Rising or Eregon? Please let me know if there’s other stories with that type of energy

He loves movies and stories like The Matrix, Marvel, Star Wars, older Star Trek, Jupiter Ascending, Transformers, mythology and like different kind of things

    1. Short Science Fiction Thriller set on Mars, Exiles by Mason Coile.

Easy to read and follow. Small cast, three humans and two Robot AIs. Single main location. Largely current day technology. Adult novel.

    2. *Moon of the Crusted Snow*

It’s written by Waubgeshig Rice, so he’d be reading an indigenous author, with the book starting with life on the rez, so your father might be able to get into the story a little easier.

I’m indigenous, in my mid 50s, and enjoyed the book (and the sequel)
