I found an old post but it didn’t fit what I was looking for.

I’m curious to know if anyone knows of a book series akin to Fate/Stay Night in terms of the same setting, basic plot, and characters, but three wildly different stories/routes. Like in the visual novel, you had the Fate Route which was Saber’s, the Unlimited Blade Works Route which was Tohsaka’s, and then there was Heaven’s Feel which was Sakura’s route.

Granted they were all with different love interests but they ended up being fantastically different from one another in terms of lore and ending, plus you found out new things about all the characters in every single route. I dunno if something like this has ever been done in a novel before or not. Figured this was the best place to ask.

As a lover of F/SN I was excited for this thread, but what you’re looking for isn’t really unique to Fate, it’s just common visual novel structure. You can find tons of other visual novels with the exact same setup.

Weirdly enough, one of the stories that sticks out to me in presenting an idea similar to the VN routes thing is a Borges short story: “The Garden of Forking Paths.” Like many Borges stories, though, it presents the idea more than fully showing it playing out.

    2. Discworld? Its a bit of a stretch, but I think its the closest you can get without just reading another visual novel.

The setting is the same in every book, although in different areas things are a bit different, and the main characters usually change although there’s a good amount of recurring characters who keep showing up.

Personally my favorite book was Interesting Times, but there’s a bunch of recommended orders you can look up and it doesn’t really matter
