Fiction or non-fiction both fine. Coming to grips with the fact that the person I love to death and had a family with is not just “going through a hard time” but is deeply depressed, and probably has been as long as I’ve know him (in spite of being very good at masking it “for our sakes” for long stretches at a time) and probably always will be (or at least, will always struggle with it). Feeling especially helpless and lonely this Christmas. Hard to watch the person you love more than anything essentially be in constant hell. So. Idk. Whatever recs sound like they’d be a help in that situation to yall?
Edit: realizing I gave very little guidance on what I’m actually looking for. Maybe a story where a character supports their depressed loved one? Or just something cozy and comforting and hopeful?

Feeling Good by David Burns.
OK, I misread, and this is more targeted to the person suffering depression. What it’s designed to do is teach you (as the depressed person) to identify and counter the problematic patterns of thought as you experience them.
I’m going to still post the suggestion, though. You can’t really beneficially “call out” the thoughts for someone else, but it may be helpful for you as well to avoid falling into similar patterns, or to suggest to your partner.
