Suggest me a book like The Covenant of Water. It was so good, making it impossible for me to enjoy anything else. Thinking of re-reading The Kite Runner as a stop-gap measure. The focus should be on the story, though, not the setting; it’s not necessary for it to take place in some far-off land

I have read the others by these authors already. I also liked: Before the Coffee gets cold, The monk and the robot books. I don't want a message about how hard life is in X country. No Jody Picoult-style, none of these cutesy cozy books that are everywhere. Just a really good story. Long, multi-generational, twists, mystical elements are okay, but no full-on fantasy. Nothing dystopian.
