Books like Severance by Ling Ma or Station Eleven, but the non-apocalypse parts?

Hi all,

This year I read Severance and Station Eleven and really enjoyed both of them, but I particularly enjoyed the portions of the book set in the “current”, and not the apocalypse/ post-collapse parts. I liked the stories about relationships, young adult life, adult relationships, and life in the city. Not necessarily romance. I guess it would be adult contemporary fiction?

I know this is an oddly specific request, but I’d love to read some more books like that. Thanks!
