My reading goal was 20 books this year. In October, I hit 18 books with Flashlight by Susan Choi. I was absolutely taken by that book. Almost right after I finished it, I learned I was pregnant. It might be a combo of pregnancy fatigue and nothing quite living up to Flashlight, but I've DNFed several books since (Little Fires Everywhere, Prozac Nation, The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny). These are books that are totally My Type (women's stories by women?) and they just did not hit. I reached for an old Kristin Hannah book since, although they're nothin near the level that Susan Choi is operating on, I can usually fly through her books, and I'm DNFing this one too.

I'm going on vacation tomorrow and am confident I can finish two more books by the 31st. Please send me your recs!! I wish I could say I am looking for something specific, but I guess I don't even know what that is right now. I think essentially I want a book with a story I will be excited to return to every time I pick it up. What was the most readable thing you read this year, or at least recently? Thank you!!!

    1. Flashlight was a 5 star read for me too, amazing book. The only other one I had from this year was There are Rivers in the Sky by Elif Shafak, can’t recommend enough.
