I’m trying to get better at Spanish by reading books in Spanish but I’m overwhelmed by all the options.

I’m currently just watching a lot of Spanish movies and learning from Duolingo and spanish emails from Phrase Cafe. I want to add more layers to my routine.

I don’t want something too academic. I want stories that are actually enjoyable while still being useful for learning.

I’m 17 and open to young adult novels, short stories, or books commonly read in Spanish-speaking countries.

If you’ve read something that helped you improve your Spanish naturally, I’d love to hear about it.

    1. If you’re into romance or drama, Como agua para chocolate is readable at an intermediate level and teaches a lot of cultural context too.

    2. I’d avoid classic literature at first. Books like Don Quijote de la Mancha are amazing, but the Spanish is old and will just frustrate you early on.

    3. If you like mystery, El alquimista is written in very clean, simple Spanish. Not originally Spanish literature, but great for learners.
