I want to get into reading, but this is might seem ridiculous, but I want to read a book that is underrated if that makes sense, not well known. Like a book that if someone were to come by and see it would think I’ve never heard of this book. But also a good read. I’m not sure, I’m not familiar with this hobby. But I would like to get into it….

I never read any books for fun. Then 5 years ago I got into reading because of my job.
I read Lord of the Rings first because I liked the movie.
Then researched top 10 lists on multiple platforms. Google, YouTube and Reddit.
Picked the top books. Now I’ve read so many great books.

      Start off by reading
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir.
      Movie comes out soon too.

Five-star books for me I feel like I never hear anyone talk about:
      – The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North (time travel/loop fiction)
      – Shark Heart by Emily Habeck (lit fic)
      – The Last Word by Taylor Adams (thriller)
      – Beneath the Surface by John Hargrove (memoir by SeaWorld orca trainer)
      – An Immense World by Ed Yong (popular science about animal senses)

Usually you would give an indication of a subject you enjoy. Action, comedy, horror. Lacking any information it’s hard to make a suggestion. I will suggest Sandman Slim. It’s a fun book that has all three of those elements to some degree. Good luck.

The Demon Breed by James Schmitz is really good, a used book I got when just starting to read that was so worth it. It involves a scientist and her giant otters traveling through an ocean driftwood jungle to save an old man kidnapped by aliens, it’s ridiculous in the best way

    5. You’ll have a lot of success with authors from outside the English-speaking world. I had a lot of fun with The Rings of Saturn, by W.G. Sebald, and Posthumous Memoirs of Bras Cubas, by Machado de Assis. A Grain of Wheat is also an amazing book, by Ngugi wa Thiong’o.
