I haven’t read a mystery in ages. I always found that I didn’t have the patience or just didn’t get hooked enough to wait for the big reveal at the end. I want to try the genre again – what are your recommendations for something that will really keep me interested?

    1. What other genres are you into? Maybe you will enjoy a book that’s a blend of mystery and another genre that you already enjoy? For instance, a mystery I really enjoyed this year was Penance by Eliza Clark, a crime mystery thriller focused on the personal lives of young women! I don’t read a lot of mystery either, but I like thrillers and stories focused on interpersonal relationships, so it worked.

For a more classic mystery, I just re-read Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie. It’s pretty fast-paced, and less than 300 pages overall, so if you usually tire of waiting for the reveal, the format of this one may work better for you.

The Only One Left by Riley Sagar was phenomenal and I’m not a huge mystery person but this one really hooked me and I couldn’t put it down.
