I'm getting back into reading after many years of ADHD-fueled brainrot and recently realized I've never actually read a romance novel. I'm curious about the genre, but every time I approach the romance section in a library or bookstore I get self-conscious (more of a 'me' problem; every video I see about romance books seems to be relentless bashing and I seem to have internalized that) and just feel completely lost. Additionally, I don't enjoy 'spice' personally (I'm asexual), which seems like it might be a problem considering how much of a selling point or just a given it seems to be in modern romances. Basically, I'd like to get an idea of where to start with the romance genre that's also relatively clean. Thanks!
