    -Lesbian romance
    -Not overly smutty
    -Literature, with some substance
-Extra points for a low-key cover, something I won’t be embarrassed to read around my family

The best example I have of what I’m looking for is Yerba Buena by Nina LaCour

    Thank you!

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, minor spoiler based off the title of your post and the title of the book. Haha.

i feel like i’m always recommending this, but it is because it’s amazing. “this is how you lose the time war” by amal el-mohtar and max gladstone. somewhat more… i’m trying to remember the perfect term someone else used on one of these posts. abstract? poetic? maybe conceptual?

it’s a short novella so if you dislike it it won’t take too much of your time. cover is super discreet, no one will guess what it’s about. it is sci-fi, but the kind of sci-fi that feels more like fantasy. it doesn’t focus on intense world-building, you don’t have to be a sci-fi fan to enjoy.

eta: it did a nebula award and a couple of others

Mrs. S, by K. Patrick is highly regarded in the world of literature and hailed by at least one person as the return of butch lesbian heroines.

I feel like I’m mentioning this book too much lately but there is a small but meaningful and sweet subplot in Moderation, by Elaine Castillo, about a young woman agonizing over whether to propose to her girlfriend in public.

Atmosphere. Truly the best book I read this year. Cover is low-key, epic love story but also lot of content about space/being a women at NASA

    5. The Price of Salt, by Patricia Highsmith. (made into the movie Carol)

The Desert of the Heart, by Jane Rule. (made into the movie Desert Hearts)
