I’m in the midst of a Charles Dickens novel, and in the Notes section (I love the Notes in classics) it mentions that policing changed in the 1800’s in London, going from a parish-Constable to a London police force. I’m interested in reading more about this. If anyone knows of any interesting nonfiction or fiction books that cover it well, that would be great.
The Notes section lists A New Study of Police History but honestly that sounds boring and I’m not wanting something that reads like a textbook, if possible. Not looking for an all encompassing read about the subject but just for what occurred with changes in policing in London.
I had an interest in the founding of the FBI and read Killers of the Flower Moon but I don’t think that book delivered well on that particular subject though it was fine covering the crime itself. Not looking for anything about the FBI but more interested in the former; simply using that as an example.
