I have read tons of books in the last few months about abuse, depression and other topics that have left a bit of a cloud over my mental health. Unfortunately these books are often the most interesting to me, and I can easily lose myself in them for hours on end. I’m hoping to find a book that is compelling but leaves me with a more positive outlook. I generally like nonfiction and memoirs but I’m also open to a fiction piece if there is an interesting conversation around it. Thank you!

Since you like memoirs, Dave Barry wrote a book called “Lessons From Lucy”. Lucy is his elderly dog. Each chapter is standalone and discusses a different way that Lucy does life better than he does. It’s positive in that the author’s aim is to apply the “lessons” to improve his own life. It’s also quite funny, or at least I thought so :).
Try Chairman of the Bored by Jethro Charlton, a humorous spy thriller with a great message.
The Women on Platform Two by Laura Anthony is a historical fiction novel loosely based on a true story about the Irish women who fought for legalization of contraception in the 1970’s. There are elements you are familiar with (hence the women were keen for contraception) but it is overall a very positive and heartwarming story. The characters are quite charming.
