Verdi's La Traviata, Un Ballo un Maschera or Rigoletto, Puccini's Turandot or La Boheme, Bellini's La Sonnambula or Norma, Mozart's Magic Flute or Figaro's Wedding, Wagner's Ring Cycle tetralogy, just to name a handful of the most iconic titles that come to mind. Many operas were adapted from their own source materials, while many more were not. I'd love to read a book or two in the next year based on the libretto of a famous opera, so I can understand the opera and appreciate it.
