There seems to be a lot of confusion with people about what this genre actually is.
Historical fiction is modern books with people, places and events that are real but are used to tell a fictional story.
Historical fiction is not really old books!
For example:
A book about the American Civil War where the author writes a fictional story around real people like Abraham Lincoln with real places for his/her plots. It is not a factual retelling of the war or their lives, they're just used by the author to tell his/her story rather than creating original characters and places. You can count Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter as a historical fiction.
The books don't have to have the most famous people of that time be the focus of the story. It could just be about a family living through that era in time like a real war that took place. The author is using factual accounts of that time period to tell the story. Pachinko is an example of this.
With that clarified I would like you all to recommend me some good historical fiction books!
Thank you.

Nor The Years Condemn – Justin Sheedy
This one is a personal one to me because the author was a friend of mine. The book is about an Australian pilot in WW2 and got me into reading for fun. His second was Ghosts of the Empire; similar premise.
Girl Waits With Gun – Amy Stewart
I just finished this one this month. Based on a real incident and people, Constance, Norma, and Fleurette Kopp. 1914 New Jersey.
Edit to add:
The Aviator’s Wife – Melanie Benjamin
Written from Anne Morrow-Lindbergh’s POV. It took me a bit to get into it, but it was a pretty decent read. Doesn’t glaze Charles much.
