I’ve been sick these holidays and my husband was lamenting that we haven’t been anywhere or done anything. It struck me as odd that I don’t feel the same, until I realised that I’ve been reading the whole time and so I have been to many places. I’ve done so much, I’ve solved pretty much 10 murders by this point, it’s been as productive a holiday as anyone could wish for 😉
Do you think readers feel generally more satisfied in life for this reason? As we’re constantly living a dozen different lives.

They see a lot more pageantry.
I think it’s probably true that readers are better at keeping themselves entertained even when they don’t have a book (or smartphone). They’ve cultivated an inner eye, whether visual or not, and are comfortable with marinating in thoughts.
Some people when left bored don’t know how to fill their heads, or are even afraid of being left with their own thoughts.
I don’t think this is exclusive to reading, if you have something you enjoy doing at home you should be okay staying at home without going anywhere. I noticed something similar with my family people complaining we hadn’t done anything during the holidays but since I had some books to read and a few video games I wanted to play, I feel like I’ve done a lot.
IDK how far I’d go with it. You can get immersed in other worlds and other people with games, tv shows, movies, etc.
But I do think that the variety of perspectives and voices I’ve seen as a heavy reader, including from a lot of the lighter reads some people are quick to judge as junk, has helped me in a variety of ways.
