I am heading on vacation and need a good gripping novel. I am a big fan of John Grisham, but have found his later books that I've read to be a little too formulaic. I've tried some of the other big thriller authors–I don't mind Baldacci, I'm not crazy about Patterson's writing style. I love Stephen King but his books tend to be slower burns, and I'm looking for something that I can sort of shut my brain off a little and enjoy the ride.
Trying to recapture the magic of reading those early Grisham novels that are fast paced and interesting. It could be that he's a uniquely talented storyteller, but I'm sure there are others out there that I'd really like. Anyone else in the same boat who found another author or book they might recommend here?
