I read The Housemaid by Freida McFadden and LOVED the pacing and the actual plot/storyline. However, I hated the book’s prose (it felt overly simple tbh) and the obvious plot holes. Any suggestions for books similar to The Housemaid that someone trying to get out of a like 10 year reading slump (it’s super bad guys) would enjoy?

I stopped reading for pleasure in high school due to both lack of time and tons of reading super intense books for school (for example, I had to read and analyze Beloved by Toni Morrison, there was no way I could fathom reading another novel at the same time lol), so I just fell off my reading game but I need it back so badly.

    1. I’ve never read anything by her so couldn’t tell you whether they are “like” the book you’ve referenced, but these are my favourite thrillers.

Dark Places and Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn

My Sister, The Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite

None Of This Is True by Lisa Jewell

      Boy Parts by Eliza Clark

      Misery by Stephen King

A Certain Hunger by Chelsea G Summers

The Secret History by Donna Tartt (my favourite book ever, you will Not find this “simple”, it does not read as a thriller but that is what it is)

    2. what did you like about it specifically? the thriller genre? the juicy stuff like affairs, betrayals, and class dynamics?
