So I normally read for the escapism of everyday life and the world at large. I will never exhaust my normal categories of scifi and fantasy, but its certainly getting harder to find a series that hits my ever-narrowing sweet spot I'm looking for. I think I'd like to try something new, but the world out there is so ambiguous and I'm clueless, so I thought I would bare my soul and my hilariously strict guidelines I'm looking for. In general though, looking for long fictions or series that are exciting or captivating. Can be scifi/fantasy adjacent, but if it's really good, I probably already looked into it. Here are the qualifiers I'm looking for.

    • Not depressing – can have depressing context or situations, as long as it doesn't end in a hopeless or really tragic way. Not what I'm looking for.
    • Would prefer left leaning or anti-capitalist politics if any.
    • No gratuitous sexual violence – again, there's nuance here, but basically as long as it's not being almost celebrated or justified by the author as some inconvenient but natural part human nature.
    • I'm ADHD, it can't be a super slow burn. If it's well done and interesting, I can read slow methodical books. But I'd prefer something that's a no-doubt page turner.
    • References of my non-fantasy books I loved: love Carl Hiassen books, Kurt Vonnegut is probably my favorite author, also enjoy high-concept spy novels like John LeCarre.
