Hi there!
I wish I read more, but I have ADHD, which makes it difficult for me to stay focused unless the characters are compelling or I'm immediately engaged with the story. I would love some recommendations with this is in mind. I love a romance or a thriller, but am open to trying new genres. I can't wait to hear your thoughts, thank you!!

I don’t have ADHD but if short chapters might be helpful, The Room by Jonas Karlsson is like 200 pages long, split into 50+ chapters. Funny, weird book.
Honestly, audiobooks while I do something else is the only way I get through most books
Some suggestions though (authors) Lisa Jewell (esp the family upstairs) Harlan coven (I will find you, , Kate slice Marshall (we won’t all survive, what lies in the woods), holly jackson (a good girls guide to murder)
Other books:
Strange houses by uketsu
You won’t believe me by cyn balog
Not thriller
Before the coffee gets cold (a series and each book is split into 3-4 interrelated stories)
Home going by yaa gyasi
The lies of the ajungo (short novella)
Try short books and audiobooks
Check out: this is how you loose the time war, a sci-fi thriller that’s pretty short and keeps you reading
I’d recommend Murderbot by Martha Wells. The first 4 books are all novellas and so have rapid pacing and unintimidating page counts, and they’re written from the I perspective which I always find helps with engagement. Plus they’re genuinely excellent, and the main character is VERY neurodiversecoded
Abby Jimenez does romance books and always represents some sort of mental health stuggle that I can relate to, as a fellow sparkle brain. The audiobooks slap too. The trick is to listen on 2x speed and do some chores; before you know it the book is done and your home is clean 🥰 Say You’ll Remember Me is my favorite of hers.
As far as other genres, I really love literary fictions because they focus more on character arcs and keep my brain guessing. Piranesi and Wild Dark Shore both blew me away, I still think about them. Horror can be fun too, lots of different sub genres there.
My biggest advice for getting back into reading is to never force yourself to finish a book you’re not enjoying. There are far too many books out there waiting to be read!
