The one almost everyone knows of or has read at some point (e.g. through school, sheer popularity, its historical importance etc). I want to use it to make a reading list.
You don’t have to be sure of it to answer, just your guess/impressions would suffice.
Please mention:
– the country
– book name with author name
– why it’s so widely read (school curriculum, historical importance, pop culture etc)
It doesn’t have to be written by someone from your country, but if you wish you can give two answers, one that was written by someone from your country and one that wasn’t.
Thanks already!

Dom Casmurro by Machado de Assis (Brazil). It’s read on schools and by everyone who has any interest in literature here.
But if we count books not from the country it’s probably Harry Potter or something like that
