For a long time in my middle school and high school years, I hated reading when I had previously loved reading. I essentially hated books because school started forcing us to read, so it felt less like something enjoyable, and more like a chore. But now that I'm out of school, I'd like to get back into reading again.

I'd like to read a more modern book, one that's a decent sized read, not too long, and not too short. Something that does have conflict, but on that's not horror, action, or some annoying misunderstanding. Preferably some kind of character conflict, but not a dumb way.

Sorry if I'm being too specific, but I'd like it to be romance, whether that be the main plot or side plot. Bonus points if the setting isn't in a city or Arizona. (I've lived in both and hate both. Also no fantasy please, I very much dislike fantasy, it's just not my thing). Preferably a female main character but a male main character is fine. Please no sad or bad endings, I can't take those.

    Thanks for the help!

    1. Eleanor and Park is a very sweet romance novel with some natural and believable conflict. It is technically a “young adult” novel, but I enjoyed it in my early 20s.
