As the title states. I recently finished reading William Maxwell’s beautifully written The Folded Leaf from 1945 and I’m hungry for more. Quite possibly my favorite book at the moment outside of Douglas Stuart’s Young Mungo
I’m looking for books that tackle close male friendships/unrequited affections set or written in the early to mid-twentieth century. I have A Separate Peace on the list, but I need more!

In terms of authorial intent this probably isn’t the case but it’s very easy to read Nick from The Great Gatsby as a closeted homosexual.
