I have been trying to get back into reading but it is just not working. I used to read a lot of books (mostly fiction) while in school but now my attention span is really not that great anymore. I can't finish anything and have tried fiction (White nights) and non-fiction (surrounded by idiots). It is so much easier to just doom-scroll on social media.
I need tips and book recommendations (which are easily available and have cheap physical copies). Please help me out.
Note: I do not want to read books about romance.

I am also trying to regain my reading habit. What helped me first is deleting Instagram. I still have my account but I only check once or twice a day via browser. It reduced my doom scrolling.
Then I stopped telling myself I should finish the book in x amount of time. I just found a book that I enjoy and tried to read consistently even if it is a page in a day.
I read East of Eden now (maybe of mice and men can be a better choice to start reading).
Just try to find something engaging for you not a book you think you should read. I don’t have many recommendations as it is different for everyone.
I think the only thing that’s actually going to work is quitting social media. Well, at least short form videos… There is a lot of concerning research coming out on short form videos and attention span.
I’d try “The Lincoln Lawyer” by Michael Connelly. I love all his books, but “The Lincoln Lawyer” might be a good starting point, as it’s more contemporary than “The Black Echo” (that’s the first Harry Bosch book).
