It might seem like a strange choice, but I've realized that mine is "Ring" by Koji Suzuki: I really like the story and especially the way it's written, because it focuses on the search for truth and there are no distractions or deviations from the main point of the story. For example, comparing it to Stephen King, whom I loved as a young man, he tends to focus heavily on the protagonists' personal lives and relationships, something that often doesn't happen with Japanese writers and which I appreciate less and less as I get older. "Ring" is a book I've read many times now but always enjoy rereading from time to time.
What's your comfort book and why?
