hi! i've only really read romance books but am trying to broaden my taste/not only read romance books for 2026. i really want a good history book or any non-fiction book, and it could be about anything… i just don't want to read something that's pro-war/not critical of the us. ty!!

Educated: A Memoir by Tara Westover brought me out of a reading slump years ago. One of the best books I’ve ever read in my entire life

    4. The Indifferent Stars Above by Daniel James Brown. It’s about the Donner Party. My favorite non-fic of all time!

    5. “War is a Force That Gives Us Meaning” by Chris Hedges. It’s the exact opposite of a pro-war book and is heavily influenced by the US involvement in the Iraq War. Hedges draws on his experiences as a war correspondent to try to dissect why societies repeatedly engage in destructive conflicts.
