Hi! I’m looking for a recommendation for a book for my husband who expressed to me that he wants to read more as a way to relax and unwind. He used to read much more when he was younger but honestly since TikTok mostly spends the little downtime he has on the app. He’s aware and wants to be off his phone more.

He’s asking for something interesting and not too cerebral, though that is often what he enjoys reading. His favorite author is Michael Chabon (has read all his books I believe).

He loves science but is not usually drawn to science fiction I believe because I think he gets caught up in the loop holes. (I’ve suggested Project Hail Mary many times and he won’t bite ugh!)

Other books he has loved throughout the years: All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doer; Theft and Finding by David Sedaris; Harry Potter series (read and loved as a child); Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer (but didn’t read the rest of the series)

Requesting fiction or non fiction that reads like fiction. Thank you!!

If he liked All the Light We Cannot See, City of Thieves, by David Benioff was a good book that also takes place during WWII. It’s two German young men in 1942 Leningrad having to run an errand for an army officer. It’s short and very well written.

    2. I would recommend seeing if Blake Crouch’s novels strike an interest, they’re fast paced thriller with some sci-fi elements and are very engaging

    3. Has he read David Sedaris’ other books? Me Talk Pretty One Day is probably my favorite but they’re all winners.

    4. I’ve seen Our Wives Under the Sea described as Annihilation but just the marriage parts lol, its very similar totally and has that same can’t put it down feeling, plus it’s short which I think is good for someone trying to do some attention span rehab (also I wouldn’t reccomend reading the rest of the Southsrn Reach series unfortunately, it peaks at annihilation)

    5. I mean … Project Hail Mary. Andy Weir would write a great TV series, he’s always great at finding a good place to leave you on a cliff hanger.

The book that really got me back into adult reading a few years ago was The Hike by Drew Magary. It’s short, surreal and fun.

He might want to try Douglas Copeland’s books (Microserfs or Generation X to start)

    7. The *Ace Lone Wolf* series is my top recommendation for American men. It has everything: great character development, Old West adventure, history, treasure hunting, and just a hint of the mystical.
