Need book recommendations similar to some of the themes I have liked

I have watched Source code, coherence, tread stone and most recently Copenhagen test. Suggest me a book that explores one core speculative theme like source code, or brain hack with character depth unraveling. Need not have a sad or perfect ending, for sure you can leave me in shambles like Donnie darko did. Thanks!
