Some friends and I have decided to start a book club and we are looking for a good book to start with!

    Any suggestions are welcome!

The hope is for something fun and interesting that brings in a lot of good conversations! (Also not too graphic or gruesome if that’s an option)

    Thank you! 🙂

    1. If you wanted a fantasy recommendation, ‘The Priory of the Orange Tree’ by Samantha Shannon is INCREDIBLE and so fun to read.

I find that tackling bigger books with a group makes it easier for me. Additionally the world building, the magic systems, and the amount of characters makes for great discussions and questions. This novel has some violence, but nothing too gruesome.

On the other hand, if you wanted something set in the real world, ‘Girl, Woman, Other’ by Bernardine Evaristo is really fun and interesting.

It takes a couple of minutes to get into Evaristo’s prose style, but as soon as you’re hooked, you can’t put it down. Every chapters follows a different character, but they are all connected somehow. This book is amazing for discussions on feminism, the diversity of women’s experiences, priviledge, sexuality, etc. I would have LOVED to read it in a group to get everyone’s opinion.

Oooh how about The Road to Tender Hearts by Annie Hartnett. It’s described as “darkly comic and warm-hearted.” I would say heavy on the warm-hearted, quite funny and quirky and definitely made me smile. My review was “this book could have gone on for many more hours and I would have kept listening and enjoyed every second of it.”
