Hi!! This year, I (23F) want to get into reading properly. For the past few years, all ive truthfully been reading is the Star Wars novels and fanfictions for a bunch of fandoms lmao. The last book I finished was Wicked and I began Twilight and I'm slowly chipping away at it but I want to move away from the comfort of things I know. I tend to read things that I already know a lot about/are in the fandoms for because due to my autism, its easier for me to visualise and I don't lose interest since these books I read are all a part of my special interests! But I know there are so many books out there i would enjoy if I gave them a chance, but i just dont know what! So im looking for recommendations of ANY books, ANY genre, that you think i would like based off these 'facts' (I guess) about myself:

    • I love video games a lot!! My favourites are The Last of Us, Stardew Valley, Assassins Creed, Red Dead Redemption, Baldurs Gate 3, Animal Crossing. I love a lot of different genres of games so books that are maybe of a similar vibe to these games (eg. Stardew Valley = a book about a small town farmer with lots of romance/friendship options?).

    • I like history! My favourite areas of history are ancient Greek and roman. I know there are a lot of retellings of stories from this era and ive always wanted to get into them, like Circe, A Thousand Ships, The Song of Achilles etc, but which do you think are personally best?? I would like a woman centric story from this era but again, open to all.

    • I really like Scooby-Doo, IT, and Stranger Things so I would love a mystery or even horror book that matches the vibe of a group of friends solving mysteries! I love when media has a big group of friends that do things together, I find them more enjoyable than a sole MC.

    • I dont mind romance but I dont want it to be the sole focus of the book. I dont mind if the MC falls in love along the way, that's cool and enjoyable, but solely romance books are not my vibe. Similarly, im not fond of smut. I dont mind reading it if its minorly included in a book for a scene or two, but i personally find it awkward to read at times. If you think i would like a book but it has some instances of these things, still recommend! Just nothing pure spice lol.

If there are any books you have read that you think would fit loosely into any of these categories, I would love to hear it! Genuinely open to any recommendations at all, I just miss reading 'properly' and want to make it a mission this year to get through a lot of books. Thank you!! ❤️
