I am writing a book with a mute character, and I’d like to do them justice in communicating when there is not a writing option available. The story is set in an old fantasy world & the characters in question will be on a quest without writing utensils, so I want the communication to be believable and not offensive. I’ll be taking an ASL course myself to learn & use as inspiration as the speaking character learns to communicate with the mute character during their journey.
Any books that explore this theme between characters? Bonus if it’s romance, as that’s what I’m going for, but anything at this point would help! I can’t say I’ve come across something like this in my personal reads before. Google sends me down ASL learning books paths, which is not what I’m after. Thanks!
