Planning a trip to Barnes & noble this week and am looking for some new picks to add to my TBR. Best I can describe my reading style is books that have been made into movies.
My criteria:
1. NO SPICE. Romance elements are fine but it needs to be closed door or less.
-
I read for fun and entertainment—like a no-screen-time alternative to TV. Using brainpower is fine, I enjoy a smartly written book, but I don’t want to be slogging through something like Dune or have to be Sherlock to understand it. I want to be sucked into the story, immersed in the world, relate to the characters, etc.
-
I like fast-paced books that are action/plot driven. Character development is great, but I find many character-driven stories to be too philosophical for my enjoyment.
-
I’m not too picky on genre as long as it’s fiction—favorites are sci fi, dystopian, and adventure but also keen on historical fiction and fantasy, sometimes I’ll dabble in thriller/mystery, action, or drama. I don’t like blood, gore, or horror, and I don’t like the romance genre. YA is okay as long as it’s well written.
-
Long books and series are all fair game.
-
Some stuff I like, just to give an idea of the vibes: Stargate, Stranger Things, and Star Trek; Indiana Jones or The Mummy style history/archaeology/mythology; the Devoured Worlds trilogy by Megan E O’keefe, Andy Weir books, Skyward by Brandon Sanderson (wasn’t immediately hooked by Mistborn, but going to give it another try.)
Thanks in advance!
