My brother is getting into reading and for his birthday i want to gift him some books that are not too hard to follow but also not too childish like Roald Dhal type.

Books that helps him to think better and feel good about himself. Themes like self confidence, courage, friendship etc.

I want to gift him stand alone books and not books in series.

He has read Harry Potter, Nancy Drew, Agatha Christie, Few of Roald Dhal's

    Thank you!

If he’s read Agatha Christie, he might enjoy Sherlock Holmes. Ray Bradbury’s short stories are in all different types of genres, so that might be good as a grab bag for him to figure out what he’s interested in: sci-fi, sentimental, horror.

Any Newbery book from the mid-1970s to the later 1990s will be good. A few that I loved – Across Five Aprils, Rifles for Waite, My Brigadista Year, My Side of the Mountain, The Dark is Rising, The Ear, The Eye and the Arm, Holes, Small Spaces (not a newbery).
