I need some fantasy (with good romantic subplots). And you will be mad at me about this but there are hardly any good hetero romance left in fantasy. Everything is ruined by the tiktok-ification of the genre. The not-so-enemies-to-lovers books.
All the good books i have been reading are all queer romances. And this is going to sound strange and I really don't want people to take it the wrong way. But sometimes, i want to read some hetero fantasy books with good romantic subplots. I am an ally but I can never relate to some queer experiences. Sometimes, i just want some good ol' relatability. All the good fantasy romance books right now have mostly queer romances.
Are there any good fantasy romance books left out there for straight people? Not the trash that's Fourth Wing or ACOTAR or all the thousands of books like them.
Please don't come at me. I wrote this with shaking fingers!! 😭😭 I swear I'm not being mean or homophobic.

Jim Butcher Codex Alera series,
I’ve been struggling with this too! I really want to enjoy romance novels but recently they all feel like a product and not a piece of work someone has put their heart into.
I was recommended and enjoyed Paladin’s Grace by T. Kingfisher was kinda a slow burn, it’s not a subplot so that’s a bummer but the dynamic between the characters was great, fun little read.
Not a fantasy (sorry) but historical, Vengeance Thwarted by Prue Phillipson, romance is subplot. Really enjoyed this one, a very refreshing read in the oversaturated romance world, my #1 rec for you. No one talks about it which makes me so sad!
Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett, a barely dark fantasy, I liked this one. Kinda tropey but the writing and characters are fun so you can look past it. Romance isn’t big till the end so kinda a subplot but still the focus.
