I'm doing a reading challenge through my local library. By the end of February I need to read both a poetry and a historical fiction book. Both these genres are out of my typical reading. I'm usually a fantasy, cozy mystery, and auto/biography person.
Any suggestions for a newbie to these genres? Even better if they are on the shorter side since I don't have a ton of time. I'm also open to audiobooks.

For poetry, I’d suggest something by Kipling or Lewis. Fairly easy to get into and kind of familiar.
Not sure if it counts as proper historical fiction, but *The Good Soldier: Schweik* by Jaroslav Hašek is a satirical look at Austria-Hungary during WWI.
