Germany immediately after WW2

I'm looking for a novel that takes place in Germany immediately or shortly after WW2. I want to know what it was like for people to move from fascism to a more democratic life. What was it like for the children who had been indoctrinated into Nazism and the families who had gone along with it and the families who had not. How do you become a community again? How do you move past it?
