Honestly try “The Power Broker” by Robert Caro if they haven’t hit that monster yet – it’s like 1200 pages about Robert Moses and somehow absolutely gripping. If they’re already through that then maybe go with something recent like “The Jakarta Method” since even hardcore history buffs sometimes miss the newer releases

A few ideas if they’re really into politics/history and feel like they’ve read everything:
• Say Nothing – modern history, very readable, and still sparks debate.
• The Power Broker – dense but legendary if they like power, systems, and how decisions actually get made.
• Team of Rivals – classic political history with real personalities and tension.
And if you want something new and a bit different: True & Absurd Lawsuits. It’s not traditional history, but it shows how law and power play out in real life in strange, very human ways.
