Hi everyone, my baby’s first birthday is coming up and my mum wants to gift her a bookcase and a bunch of books to go with it. My daughter really enjoys books so this is pretty much the perfect gift! She enjoys touch and feel books like the “never touch the…” series, finger wiggle books (like Sleepy Little Bedtime), and other board books with distinct things to look at and minimal text. She also likes Winnie The Pooh. I would also ideally like something I won’t get tired of reading over and over. Please give me all your suggestions that I can send to my mum. Bonus points if they’re cheap! Double bonus points for any bilingual members here who can suggest Urdu board books too 🙂

    1. I absolutely love Chris Haughton’s board books. They’re gorgeous and I gift them to new parents every chance I get.

My little one really enjoyed the “Tales from Acorn Wood” series by Julia Donaldson, especially Cat’s Cookbook. “Guess How Much I Love You” by Sam McBratney was also a hit. Then, of course, the classic “Very Hungry Caterpillar.”

If you’re based in the UK check out charity shops for children’s books. We’ve got 90% of our books from them. Good luck & happy reading! 🙂

    3. My nephew’s into those indestructible books. Kid gnaws on them like a teething ring and they survive. Also the Eric Carle stuff holds up to the 500th read without making you insane.

    4. Sandra Boynton was an author in our rotation a lot in my son’s early years! Also Mo Willems (Elephant and Piggie, the pigeon).

      Some of our favourites:

      Usborne Noisy Orchestra

      Gruffalo touch and feel

      Acorn woods series

How to feed your cheeky monkey (and others in same series – one about brushing teeth, one about bedtime).

Just like Daddy by Lucy Freegard (Good Father’s Day gift too)

      Feelings lift the flap book

Where the Wild Things Are (for age two upwards)

      Pikachu Loves

      Red car, Green car

    6. Sandra Boynton books! ALL OF THE SANDRA BOYNTON BOOKS. I’m also a big fan of *Steam Train, Dream Train* by Sherri Duskey Rinker.

She’s too young for it now, but if you want to get ahead a bit on her bookshelf for when she’s about 3 I can’t recommend *The Book With No Pictures* by BJ Novak enough.

    7. Runaway Bunny

      Goodnight Moon

Both are available as board books

Any Laura Numeroff book but my favorite is If You Give A Pig A Pancake

    8. All of John Klassen. It’s like thrillers for toddlers 😂

First time I picked one of these up, I Want My Hat Back, I think, with the bear, I laughed so loud people stared.

Now I buy them for myself. We gift them to add babies/kids we know.

      Edit. I meant bear.
