Hi!
My stepson (13M) just finished The Martian, Project Hail Mary, and Artemis by Andy Weir. There's other posts with some recommendations for folks looking for something similar to these, and I've got them saved.
I did want to ask specifically if anyone had any good recommendations for a 13-year-old who was obsessed with The Martian and Project Hail Mary in particular. I'm reading PHM now and I think it's the easy-going writing style mixed with the technical, hard sci-fi stuff that really appeals to him.
Michael Crichton feels like the next logical step of an author to explore, but would love to get more recommendations for the next library trip.
Bonus points if it's space related, in some way, as that's his big interest. Thanks!

Definitely second the Crichton suggestion – Sphere or The Andromeda Strain would be perfect for that age. Also check out Kim Stanley Robinson’s Mars trilogy if he’s ready for something a bit more dense, or maybe start with Red Mars. The Expanse series is also solid but might want to preview book 1 first since it gets a little mature in spots
