I'm trying to start an activity with some friends called a travelling book. Basically, you read a book and make annotations to then pass it along to another person who will read and annotate and so on.

I'm trying to find a book that's relatively short and has a story that will allow us to find stuff to comment on. We don't have many more specifications beyond that, we like romance and thrillers but are open to other topics.

    Any ideas?

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is perfect for this – it’s got romance, drama, and SO many moments where you’ll want to scribble “WAIT WHAT” in the margins. Plus it’s the kind of book that makes everyone have opinions about every character

Here are 2 that may work well.

      True & Absurd Lawsuits
Each case is short and self-contained, so people can jump in anywhere. It naturally sparks margin notes like “this can’t be real,” arguments about who’s wrong, and little side rants. Honestly feels made for annotations and passing around.

If you want a non-fiction option that’s lighter and more playful:
      • 101 Facts That Will Blow Your Mind (or any solid “101 facts” style book)
Bite-sized entries, lots of “wait, really?” moments, and easy to react to without committing to long chapters. Great for quick comments, jokes, or disagreements in the margins.
