Can you suggest for me a fiction or non-fiction book about traveling the world — what different countries/cultures are like? I am really interested in learning about different countries. There are so many! I would like the book to be semi-modern or modern (written within the last 30 years). Thanks in advance for any ideas!

A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail and In A Sunburned Country by Bill Bryson. He’s a great author for travelogues, as he just takes you with him in his journey. Sunburned Country is his tour of Australia. You could actually consider most of his books.

Chop Suey Nation: The Legion Cafe and Other Stories from Canada’s Chinese Restaurants by Ann Hui. A different take on a travel book, but the author travels across Canada seeking out information on small town Chinese restaurants and their history. It’s really interesting!
