Hi everyone! I hope 2026 is being nice to y'all.
I'm looking for book recommendations to fall back in love with reading. My mental health has been quite meh in the past couple of years which, paired with schoolwork, has meant not a lot of reading. I want to get back to reading, but I have some "prerequisites" (apologies for being so picky):
-minimal to no romance (I want to decenter romantic love from my life)
-strong female characters (I want motivation)
-not too long (I want to start slow so I don't get discouraged)
In the past I've enjoyed fantasy books, thrillers, and classical books. I'm open to pretty much any genres as long as they meet the aforementioned prerequisites. I've fallen in love with scary movies, so I'm more than open to scary books.
Thank you so much ❤️ and happy reading 📚

Recently read The Rainmaker by John Grisham and it reminded how it felt to read whole books over 2 days when I was back in school. I think you’ll enjoy it.
