    1. Broken Horses by Brandi Carlile

If you get the audiobook, she sings songs between chapters. The physical book has some great pictures.

    2. Not a memoir directly but if you don’t mind poetry, Andrea Gibson’s You Better Be Lightning is worth owning.

Darling Days by Io Tillet Wright, about growing up trans in the 80’s and 90’s in NYC. He had a wild life, and it’s a fun and heart breaking read. Also can’t recommend his Ted talk about the spectrums we all exist on enough.

    5. He writes more biographical essays than memoirs, but have you read David Sedaris? *Me Talk Pretty One Day* and *When You are Engulfed in Flames* are my two favorites of his, but really all of his books are great. *AMAZING* on audio, as well.

Love me some David Sedaris. Also I can’t remember if she’s LGBT, but Doris Lessing is truly amazing writer. Golden notebook is fantastic.

On the Red Hill by Mike Parker!! A queer couple inherit a house from another queer couple, and the book explores their relationships across different generations in rural Wales. Also Undercurrent by Natasha Carthew, about growing up as a lesbian in poverty and nature in Cornwall.

    8. Punch Me Up to the Gods by Brian Broome. No detailed accounts of abuse, but Broome writes about growing up as a Black, gay man in the Rust Belt in the 80s and 90s. Also about overcoming addiction. Despite the topics, it’s very funny.
